Holographic Quantum Critical Transport without Self-Duality

چکیده
We describe general features of frequency-dependent charge transport near strongly interacting quantum critical points in 2+1 dimensions. The simplest description using the AdS/CFT correspondence leads to a self-dual Einstein-Maxwell theory on AdS4, which fixes the conductivity at a frequency-independent self-dual value. We describe the general structure of higher-derivative corrections to the Einstein-Maxwell theory, and compute their implications for the frequency dependence of the quantumcritical conductivity. We show that physical consistency conditions on the higherderivative terms allow only a limited frequency dependence in the conductivity. The frequency dependence is amenable to a physical interpretation using transport of either particle-like or vortex-like excitations. ar X iv :1 01 0. 04 43 v3 [ he pth ] 1 3 M ar 2 01 1

Quantum critical transport , duality , and M - theory
We consider charge transport properties of 2+1 dimensional conformal field theories at non-zero temperature. For theories with only Abelian U(1) charges, we describe the action of particle-vortex duality on the hydrodynamic-to-collisionless crossover function: this leads to powerful functional constraints for self-dual theories. For N=8 supersymmetric, SU(N) Yang-Mills theory at the conformal f...
متن کاملHolographic Duality with a View Toward Many-Body Physics
These are notes based on a series of lectures given at the KITP workshop Quantum Criticality and the AdS/CFT Correspondence in July, 2009. The goal of the lectures was to introduce condensed matter physicists to the AdS/CFT correspondence. Discussion of string theory and of supersymmetry is avoided to the extent possible.
متن کاملThe quasi-normal modes of quantum criticality
Abstract We study charge transport of quantum critical points described by conformal field theories in 2+1 spacetime dimensions. The transport is described by an e↵ective field theory on an asymptotically antide Sitter spacetime, expanded to fourth order in spatial and temporal gradients. The presence of a horizon at non-zero temperatures implies that this theory has quasi-normal modes with com...
متن کاملAC Transport at Holographic Quantum Hall Transitions
We compute AC electrical transport at quantum Hall critical points, as modeled by intersecting branes and gauge/gravity duality. We compare our results with a previous field theory computation by Sachdev, and find unexpectedly good agreement. We also give general results for DC Hall and longitudinal conductivities valid for a wide class of quantum Hall transitions, as well as (semi)analytical r...
متن کاملHolographic Duality, Supersymmetry, and Painlevé Equation
A new holographic duality between four-dimensional gravity and two-dimensional quantum field theories is found. The constraints on the target space geometry of the four-dimensional N=2 supersymmetric non-linear sigma-models in N=2 supergravity background are interpreted as the Renormalization Group (RG) flow equations in the two-dimensional N=2 supersymmetric quantum field theories. Our geometr...
